Online Videos: Just a Fad or Quickly Becoming a Standard in the Online World?

Since the dawn of the information superhighway, more and more people come up with new ideas on how to reach the world through the simplest means possible. Before, we only thought of correspondence using snail mail, telegraphs and home phones or faxes, but now, communication has never been easier once you have your mobile phone with you, or better yet, your computer with a ready internet connection. Through the use of the computer and the internet, anyone can have an unlimited access to emails, social networking sites and online video portals with a click of a mouse.

Since the rise of the ever-popular site YouTube, the rise of the online video industry is becoming more and more popular as time goes by. In fact, in a study held by Nielsen Online, sites offering online videos increased their audience since October last year. Jupiter, The research firm, Jupiter, has also done a similar research in Europe. It was concluded that since 2006, Europeans have also doubled their access on online video sites. Online Publishers Association stated in their report that it has become a routine for most Americans to watch videos over the internet. Online videos have been established as one of the most popular means to reach a targeted audience over the internet.

In a report conducted by Pew Internet Project, a US-based company, about half of the internet users in America have accessed a video sharing site since the year 2007. A fraction of these audiences have either watched or posted videos in a regular day. This only shows us that the rise of online videos is definitely making some drastic mark on the way we communicate with other people using the internet superhighway. We all thought that emails and blogs are a good way to reach out to a specific audience. Why not use a more personal and diverse way to present your ideas to the world, such as online videos?

Americans are not the only ones who have noticed this new way of putting their message across their audiences. Since the rise of online videos, more and more people learn to have their own homemade videos and they share it into online video sites. And because there is a rapid demand in the industry for sites which offer similar services, YouTube has certainly found some marked competitors which offer the same service as they do.

Amidst all of the positive ideas about the rise of online videos, there are also things that other companies are worried about as more and more of these sites become available to the public. Some companies decide to work hand in hand with these online video sites or else, there are great chances that their works may be pirated online. Since almost all of these sites have the option of either uploading or downloading videos, there are possibilities that most people may just upload original content over the internet so they can be made available to all. This will let companies lose a considerably large sum of money, if most users will just download their content off the net for free.
